IMG_6733mdCouncilmember Steve Hansen has served on the Sacramento City Council since 2012 and represents the Fourth Council District. Steve represents residents in the River Oaks, Central City, Land Park, South Land Park and Little Pocket neighborhoods.

Steve is a leading voice for smart growth, multi-modal transportation, public safety, economic development and innovation. He chairs the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District. He also serves as a board member for Sacramento Regional Transit, the Sacramento Transportation Agency, and the Local Government Commission.

During Steve’s time on the Council he has passed key initiatives, which include increasing protection for LGBT employees and residents and updating zoning codes to allow for urban agriculture. He worked tirelessly to reopen a local elementary school in the Central City. Other accomplishments include creating new and improving existing District 4 parks, and working to revitalize public housing.

Steve’s life of public service began as an Executive Fellow working in the California State and Consumer Services Agency. He also has worked as an advocate for Equality California, a statewide advocacy group for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians, Genentech, Inc. and the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law.

Steve is a graduate of McGeorge School of Law and has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Gonzaga University. In 2014, he earned a Certificate for Senior Executives in State and Local Government from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government.
